Product Development Group
Hikari Kikai Seisakusho, which has a long track record as a top grinding machine maker, develops and manufactures grinding machines used for making cutting tools (inserts) as well as grinding machines indispensable in the advanced areas such as electronics and information technology which support next-generation industries.
In the mechanical design, we incorporate the technology and knowhow cultivated over the period of more than 70 years together with ergonomic viewpoints and advanced technology to develop machine concept and design the machine with detailed specifications.
In the control design, we use sensors and vision system to develop software for advanced control of machines and robots. This is a team that literally makes the brain of the machine.
Many of the grinding machines we make are new and have not existed before in the world. We are engaged in development every day to provide new values so that we can induce “Wow!” from customers by making machines which exceed their expectation.
Products of Hikari Kikai Seisakusho are used at manufacturing floors in more than 10 countries in the world. The two teams, Domestic Sales and Overseas Sales, conduct marketing research by country, region and industry in order to solve customers’ challenges and present value propositions. The Sales Department is the face of the company as a contact, but at the same time, plays an overall coordinating role.
The Domestic Sales serves as a contact for domestic customers from Hokkaido to Kagoshima. Our customers include a world-leading manufacturer which we have been doing business for more than 50 years, a new customer who has started to use our products with their final products and parts being downsized and a customer who has asked us to solve its challenge which could not be solved by other companies. We ensure that we can understand each customer’s needs and make a timely proposal. We also engage in sales activities for contract machining for cutting and grinding as well as for the state-of-the-art laser microfabrication for medical, semiconductor and other new fields.
The Overseas Sales engage in sales activities for South Korea, China, Taiwan, ASEAN countries, India, European and American countries. Overseas culture and ways of thinking are different, which makes us face different challenges in terms of promotion and building trust. However, when we continuously try to understand in our bones the characteristics of each country or region such as culture and business practices, we can feel that our network starts to expand and deepen. This is what we at Overseas Sales feel is most rewarding.

Tool Design Group
The cutting tools of Hikari Kikai Seisakusho realize precise cutting and grinding, which are indispensable for all kinds of manufacturing and have been highly appraised over a long period of time. That appraisal is supported by the Tool Design Group, which consists of two teams: “Tool Design” and “Programming”.
The Production Group is responsible for the production of cutting tools, one the main businesses of Hikari Kikai Seisakusho. We operate general-purpose lathe machines, NC lathe machines, general-purpose milling machines, NC milling machines, cylindrical grinding machines, surface grinding machines, machining centers, etc. to make a variety of products from standard parts to individual parts including cutting tools centering on carbide inserts and drill holders, various jigs and machine tool parts.

Untiring technological innovation has been part of the culture of Hikari Kikai Seisakusho since its foundation. Against such a background, we have established Hikari Laser Lab. dedicated to the research on the latest laser technology. It was established in 2013 in Tsukuba City where related research facilities are clustered, and in 2015 was relocated and expanded in Kashiwa City. At present, dedicated researchers are engaged not only in R&D of laser fabrication technology which no other companies have, but also in the development of prototypes and actual machines by taking advantage of the results of research.
The demand for microfabrication used for microholes invisible to the naked eye or thin films is rising in the semiconductor and medical fields and we focus on this area as new technological area.
